Move Over, Aladdin! Mena Massoud Plays A Real Prince In Netflix’s The Royal Treatment Trailer Alongside Laura Marano

What if Aladdin was an actual prince?

Netflix released the trailer for their upcoming rom-com The Royal Treatment starring former Disney stars Laura Marano of Austin & Ally fame and Mena Massoud, best known for Disney’s live-action Aladdin. While Massoud played a wannabe prince in the 2019 remake, this time he’s the real deal.

In the trailer for Netflix’s The Royal Treatment, Massoud stars as Prince Thomas who is getting married for duty rather than love, meanwhile Laura Marano plays a New York hairdresser named Isabella who has gotten the opportunity of a lifetime to do hair for the royal wedding. When they meet, sparks fly as they work to take control of their own destinies by following their hearts.

While Marano’s New York accent is questionable, it’s exciting the see the duo star in a new Netflix rom-com, especially following Massoud’s struggles to book roles after Aladdin. “I’m kind of tired of staying quiet about it,” Massoud told The Daily Beast, when they caught up with him in 2019 around the film’s debut. “I want people to know that it’s not always dandelions and roses when you’re doing something like Aladdin. ‘He must have made millions. He must be getting all these offers.’ It’s none of those things. I haven’t had a single audition since Aladdin came out.”

“It’s wild to a lot of people,” he said. “People have these ideas in their head. It’s like, I'm sitting here being like, OK, Aladdin just hit $1 billion. Can I at least get an audition? Like I’m not expecting you to be like, here’s Batman. But can I just get in the room? Like, can you just give me a chance? So it’s not always what you think.”

The Royal Treatment hits Netflix on January 20, 2022.
