Glo Hampton Talks Brand New Chapter in Dance Moms: A New Era

A new group of dancers are ready to take the stage in Dance Moms: A New Era. The reboot to the ever so popular Dance Moms offers more mama drama and a new head coach Gloria Hampton. Pop Culture Planet’s Mandi Laudenslager spoke to Glo Hampton about all things dance and what we can expect in this new era!

Glo Hampton has been a part of the dance world for 40 years now, starting out as a dance mom herself, and continuing her love for choreographing at Studio Bleu. “This is what I do. It’s what I’ve done for years now, it’s just on a much bigger scale,” Hampton said about the show.

Dance Moms is best known for their unique and creative performances and that is not stopping now. When asked about her choreography Hampton said, “I see the kids, we throw some things at them, and it evolves from there.” This new group of girls will showcase a series of heartfelt dances while also adding some fun ones into the mix!

Hampton even extended an invitation to the old gang as well when asked about having some original members of Dance Moms return. “Oh my gosh, I would love that! The kids would love that. They have looked up to them. I mean, they were the trailblazers for this,” she told me. “We would love to have them back. Open invitation.” A new cast versus old cast crossover would definitely be iconic!

Along with each new girl, we are introduced to more mothers, each bringing on the drama. “It’s difficult because everyone wants their child to be the best and to be the star, but they have to trust me,” Hampton said. “At the end of the day, they do, but there are definitely days I have to put them in their place.”

There is a lot of work that goes into filming the show, from long studio nights to hardworking competition days. “The girls did have some long days, but they worked really hard. I also think it was eye-opening for them to realize how much work goes into being a professional dancer,” Hampton said.

Hampton even revealed another one of her dream guests for the show. “I have a deep rooted love for ballet. My dream guest for me is Misty Copeland,” she said. “She is such an inspiration to young girls, especially dancers of color.”

Her own daughter has since gone off to be a professional dancer and she could not be anymore proud. “Getting my daughter to the point of being able to make a career of dancing is really heartwarming for me,” Hampton said. “That's probably my biggest source of pride right there.”

Glo Hampton is ready to put in work in this new era of Dance Moms and she’s “so excited to showcase it all with the world.”

Dance Moms: A New Era is out on Hulu on August 7.
