Here’s 4 New Girl Episodes To Get You In The Christmas Spirit
Christmas episodes are a tentpole moment for network television shows — and New Girl does not disappoint! Filled with laugh out loud moments and true friendship, these episodes will get you in the festive spirit. Binging the entire series is the best move, but if you’re in a time crunch or are rewatching for the holiday season, Pop Culture Planet contributor Jordan Bohan breaks down each Christmas episode from New Girl.
“The 23rd” (Season 1, Episode 9)
The first New Girl Christmas episode is by far the best, as it lets everyone shine in their unique and quirky ways. Schmidt (Max Greenfield) utters the iconic “Judaism, son” line in this episode and reminds everyone that he hates Christmas because it means that Hanukkah is over.
The best part of this holiday episode is that it highlights the true love and care that the group has for one another. Sacrificing his trip home, Nick (Jake Johnson) takes the group on a detour down this Christmas street. The next thing you know everyone is standing in the road in the middle of the night screaming to convince residents to light up Candy Cane Lane. The episode closes out with Jess (Zooey Deschanel) singing “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” showing off her vocal chops.
“Santa” (Season 2, Episode 11)
The group attempts to hit as many holiday parties as possible on the Saturday before Christmas. Things just keep getting worse as they attend each party. Jess is still reeling from her recent breakup with Sam, Schmidt can’t get along with Cece (Hannah Simone), and Nick is a little too into the idea of having a stripper girlfriend.
This episode fully encapsulates the chaos of the holiday season and how dynamics can be tested during the stressful time. No matter what disagreements ensue, the New Girl group still leaves your heart warm and full.
“LAXmas” (Season 4, Episode 11)
Everyone is trying to make their way through LAX to get home, but a huge storm mixes up everyone’s travel plans. Jess tries to figure things out for the gang — and you can probably guess that it goes horribly wrong.
Billy Eichner guest stars as a disgruntled airline employee and Coach (Damon Wayans Jr.) also makes an appearance. There are so many sweet moments between Cece and Schmidt before they inevitably get together, which makes this a standout episode for them.
“Christmas Eve Eve” (Seaon 6, Episode 10)
In the series’ final Christmas episode, Jess tries to organize a Secret Santa swap, but accidentally forgets to put her own name into the hat, which makes everyone feel bad after they’ve gotten presents. On top of that, Robby is still dating Jess and Nick is still dating Reagan (Megan Fox), but the fans really just want to see Nick and Jess together.
The real stars of the episode are Cece and Winston (Lamorne Morris) who buy each other the most oddly specific presents to coincide with their hilarious inside jokes that make no sense to anyone else. Each character has a special relationship with one another and this episode really highlights that.
