Here’s A First Look At Netflix’s New Medical Procedural Pulse

Netflix revealed a first look at their first English-language medical procedural with Pulse.

The series is set at Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center in the midst of a hurricane. It follows third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms, played by Willa Fitzgerald, as she is thrust into the role of Chief Resident after the beloved Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended. When the hospital goes into lockdown, she is forced to work with him — and the details of their affair begin to come out. Saving lives becomes much easier for the doctors than balancing their own complicated lives.

Pulse creator, showrunner, and executive producer Zoe Robyn is eager to tap into real life stories. “We wanted these characters to be real people who have to go through the relatable issues of working together in a pressure cooker,” she said in a statement. “Relationships are forming and breaking apart on Pulse.”

Meanwhile co-showrunner and executive producer Carlton Cuse opened up about work family. “Nowadays, your work family can really be, apart from your literal family, the most important community you have. The complications that arise — between what's going on off the clock and on the clock — can get messy,” he said. “It can get confusing. That's what we wanted to explore with Pulse."

Justina Machado, Jack Bannon, Jessie T. Usher, Jessy Yates, Chelsea Muirhead, Daniela Nieves, Néstor Carbonell, Jessica Rothe, Santiago Segura, Ash Santos, and Arturo Del Puerto round out the cast.

Pulse premieres on Netflix on April 3.
