Who Should Play the Princess of Pop in the Upcoming Britney Spears Biopic?
This is the story about a girl named… Britney!
Universal Pictures has secured the rights to Britney Spears’s bestselling memoir “The Woman in Me.” Jon M. Chu, director of the upcoming Wicked adaptation, is set to direct the film with producer Marc Platt signed on to develop the memoir into a feature film. Spears has been dropping subtle Easter eggs over social media to her adoring fans, preparing them for an exciting secret project she has in the works.
The memoir recounts the star’s meteoric rise to pop royalty starting from her days in The Mickey Mouse Club through her infamous conservatorship court battle and it doesn’t hold back. Readers learn of the singer’s connection with her family and even the tumultuous relationship with her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. With such a tall order of pop culture history to bring to life, it’s impossible to not wonder who will wear the crown as the Princess of Pop. Here are the actresses we think could play Spears on the big screen.
Bailee Madison
When child stars are mentioned, Bailee Madison definitely comes to mind. The actress has had a plethora of roles since her debut in 2007’s Bridge To Terabithia. Most recently she's played Imogen Adams in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School and just released her new pop song “Chiller.” Growing up in the public eye, her connection to Disney Channel, and her triple threat status as a singer, dancer, and actress would make her a phenomenal pick as Spears.
Madelyn Cline
Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline is in her it-girl era and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Without a doubt, Cline looks the part. With her bubbly, humble personality, Cline might be the perfect pick to ground such an out-of-this-world famous personality like Spears. In old interviews of Spears, even with all her fame, she exuded such humility and a twang of Southern charm. This South Carolina native could definitely pack on the Spears charm and her acting chops could bring audiences to tears reenacting the infamous conservatorship trial Spears endured.
Millie Bobby Brown
The Stranger Things superstar expressed interest in playing Spears when talking to Drew Barrymore on her talk show in 2022. Millie Bobby Brown stated that she resonates with the singers’s story of growing up in the public eye and the dedication she would give to the role. However, Spears reacted to the idea of a film about her life with a post on social media, saying, “I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life…dude I’m not dead.” One can’t help but wonder if Spears already had a plan to adapt her life into a film and didn’t want to give it away yet.
With Brown growing up in Hollywood as one of the most famous child stars of the generation, she could bring a relatable perspective to Britney’s life. Now that Stranger Things is set to end with its fifth season, maybe Brown will take the stage as one of America’s greatest pop stars.
Olivia Holt
Another Disney Channel star makes the list! Olivia Holt has the look and would make an incredible Spears with her charming personality, dancing, singing, and acting expertise. She has found great success in Freeform’s Cruel Summer and recently played a young Julie Bowen in Totally Killer. It would be fantastic to see Holt get more recognition with a role as monumental as Britney Spears.
