Fantasia Barrino, Halle Bailey, and More Star In Emotional The Color Purple Trailer

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the trailer for The Color Purple, based on both the novel by Alice Walker and the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical.

Described as a “bold new take on the beloved classic,” it follows the sisterhood of three Black women who share one unbreakable bond in the South in the early 1900s. “Dear Celie, we have more than just kings and queens,” says Halle Bailey’s young Nettie in the trailer punctuated by the musical’s hit song “I’m Here.” “We are at the center of the universe.”

The star-studded cast includes stars Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Fantasia Barrino in her major motion picture debut. Brooks is reprising her Tony-nominated role as Sofia, while Barrino returns to the role of Celie that she played in the 2007 revival. With this talented collection of actors and musicians, the soundtrack for this musical movie is about to be top tier!

The Color Purple is set to open in theaters on Christmas Day.
