Peacock Announces New Series Set In The Same Universe as The Office

Exciting news: A new comedy from NBC’s The Office adapter Greg Daniels has been picked up as a series at Peacock. Did I stutter?!

The mockumentary will follow the documentary crew that brought Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch to our screens as they search for a new subject. They discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper with a publisher desperately trying to revive it with volunteer reporters. Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore will lead the series’ ensemble cast.

The Office aired its final episode in 2013, but continued to reach a huge audience until it was removed from Netflix at the start of 2021. During the height of the pandemic in 2020, Americans cumulatively streamed more than 57 billion minutes of the beloved comedy series. “It’s been more than ten years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” said Lisa Katz, President of NBCUniversal Entertainment, in a statement. "In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper."

The untitled series will begin production in July of this year.
