With Love Has Been Picked Up For A Second Season On Prime Video

Amazon Studios has greenlit Gloria Calderón Kellett’s rom-com series With Love for a second season.

The first season followed the Diaz family going through the ups and downs of life and love, with each episode taking place over a different holiday. It ended on a cliffhanger with an engagement looming and one of three possible couples getting ready to make that big leap.

I spoke with Kellett on the Pop Culture Planet podcast about what inspired her to create With Love, the first project under her overall deal with Amazon Studios. “With Love came out of the pandemic and the collective trauma I think that everyone was feeling. There was incredible awakening and a lot of consistent images of Brown bodies on screen being violated in some way,” she shared with me. “Boy, I just felt like I was seeing a deluge [of] so many traumatic images and I was like I just want to present something to Black and Brown and queer people who are the most underrepresented in America. I want to give them images of love and of support and of thriving. I just want to provide something trauma-free and joyful.”

This lead to Kellett putting LGBTQ+ characters of color at the heart of the story. “There's no coming out story. Everyone's been out. Their Trans cousin has been Trans for a decade. Nobody cares anymore,” she said. “All that's left is the love and wanting to see these people thrive. The center of the story are Black and Brown and queer Latinos.”

With Love stars Emeraude Toubia, Mark Indelicato, Rome Flynn, Desmond Chiam, Vincent Rodriguez III, Isis King, Todd Grinnell, Constance Marie, and Benito Martinez.
