R.L. Stine’s Most Iconic Stories Come To Life In Disney+’s Goosebumps Trailer
Reader beware, you’re in for a scare.
The Goosebumps books put R.L. Stine on the map for his affinity for writing stories that give children thrills and chills. It resulted in the hit 1995 anthology and two movies in 2015 and 2018. Now the franchise returns in a new contained story featuring iconic characters and storylines influenced by five of Stine’s most popular books.
Eagle-eyed fans will spot references in the new trailer, above, to the Say Cheese and Die! camera, a mask to represent The Haunted Mask, the clock from The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, and the iconic Slappy from Night of the Living Dummy. Fittingly soundtracked by “goosebumps” by Travis Scott, the trailer introduces us to five teens from the small town of Port Lawrence (another reference to Robert Lawrence Stine himself!) as they unearth dark secrets linked to the tragic passing of a teen named Harold Biddle from three decades earlier. After throwing a Halloween party in the old Biddle house, they find themselves thrust into a new haunted reality where they must band together to save the town, learning new things about each other and their parents along the way. With a mix of teen comedy, adventure, and psychological thrill, Goosebumps seems like the perfect spooky watch for new fans and those who grew up with the franchise.
The cast includes Zack Morris as Isaiah, the star football player relying on his athleticism to go to college; Isa Briones as Margot, who typically has her head in a book; Ana Yi Puig as Isabella, who is smart but invisible to her classmates; Miles McKenna as James, the class clown from a wealthy family; Will Price as daredevil Lucas who wants to follow in his father’s footsteps; Rachael Harris as Lucas’ mom who may know more that it seems; and Justin Long as Nathan Bratt, a new schoolteacher who develops a terrifying connection to the decades-old supernatural murder.
The first five episodes of the season will be available to stream on October 13 as part of Disney+’s Hallowstream and Hulu’s Huluween celebrations. Feel like making a night of it? You can even catch those first two episodes on Freeform during their 31 Nights of Halloween programming. The remaining five episodes of the season will drop weekly on both DIsney+ and Hulu.
