Rihanna Returns To Music With New Songs On Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Soundtrack
Global icon Rihanna is set to ring in the next era of her music career with her first song since 2016’s Anti album. Not only is she headlining the Super Bowl LVII halftime show, but she’s releasing not one, but two new singles for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: “Lift Me Up” and the upcoming “Born Again.”
In Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – one of the most highly anticipated film events of the year – the Wakandan community fights to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death and forge a new path for the kingdom. The new single “Lift Me Up” was written by Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna, and Ryan Coogler in tribute to the life and legacy of the late Chadwick Boseman.
Tems shared a statement about the creation of “Lift Me Up.” “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them,” she said. “Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”
“Lift Me Up” was recorded in five countries and will be released under Rihanna’s own Westbury Road label in partnership with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings, and Hollywood Records.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever opens in theaters on November 11, while Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Music From and Inspired By will be available on November 4.
