Monique Coleman On High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: “The Perfect Way To Continue The Franchise”

It’s A Christmas Dance Reunion for the books as High School Musical stars Monique Coleman and Corbin Bleu reunite for a brand new Lifetime holiday movie. I got a chance to speak with the Disney Channel alumni about what it’s like to see the support from the fans throughout their career and their thoughts on the continuation that is High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

The duo has known each other for 15 years, but the love from the fans is still so strong. “The response… it’s been so wonderful,” Corbin Bleu told me. “Just seeing this outpour of love and for that to have lasted for all of these years, it just feels so good.”

When it comes to the new take on High School Musical with High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Monique Coleman gushes that the new team did “an amazing job with it” after all these years. “Over the years, there have been so many rumors and false started where it was whispered about that something could happen,” said Coleman. “I feel like they really did pick the perfect way to continue the franchise and I'm so excited for the new class and the new generation of young people and them getting to be a part of that magic.”

Coleman reminisces on the incredible power of the High School Musical franchise. “[I want the new cast] to have this really delicious experience like we [did when we] got to live and breathe High School Musical for almost four years at a very pivotal time in all of our lives,” she said. “It changed the course of our lives forever, so and so much so that we're still talking about it now. To have something like that in this industry, especially right now where there's so many there's so many reboots… we're getting to see what has made an indention and an impact on culture. To know that we made that impact on culture for me is enough.”

Would Coleman and Bleu ever return to their High School Musical roots? Only if it made sense. “I can't really imagine or know where we would fit into all of that, but I would be open to it,” Coleman said. “I’m open to seeing what that could be.”

A Christmas Dance Reunion is available on Lifetime, while all the iterations of the High School Musical franchise can be found on Disney+.
