The Essex girls are back for another semester!

Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble made lightning in a bottle with their new HBO Max series The Sex Lives Of College Girls that has become can’t miss viewing each week. Led by Pauline Chalamet, Reneé Rapp, Amrit Kaur, and Alyah Chanelle Scott, the series focuses on four college roommates at Essex College who are figuring out themselves — and their sex lives — on the prestigious campus.

In the first season, we follow Kimberly (Chalamet), a small town work-study student experiencing culture shock, Bela (Kaur), an Indian-American aspiring comedy writer (maybe inspired by Kaling herself!), Leighton (Rapp), a rich legacy student hiding in the closet, and Whitney (Scott), an African-American star soccer player and daughter of a senator who’s having an affair with her assistant coach.

Now ahead of the show’s two-episode season 1 finale, HBO Max has renewed the series for a second season. With the show being the biggest Max Original Comedy launch of the year, it’s a no-brainer. “Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble have created and written a show that is full of heart, female friendships, and awkward naked parties,” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, in a press release. “We are delighted that this comic, honest portrayal of the college condition has resonated for everyone, whether they had sex in college or not. We can’t wait to see where these uniquely complex yet relatable characters will go next.
