Love Is Blind Season 6 Cast Share Their Experiences On The Show
Full of drama, romance, and love triangles, Love Is Blind is back for season 6! On the show, singles aim to find a match and fall in love, all without ever having seen each other in person. Can their emotional connection surpass the physical to prove that love is truly blind? By the end, couples will either marry or separate forever. Pop Culture Planet’s Kristen Maldonado spoke with the cast about their experiences in the unique dating show.
AD made two connections in the Love Is Blind pods, finding herself in a love triangle with two very different men: Matthew and Clay. She ended up learning that the abrasive Matthew was saying the exact same things to her as he was to her fellow contestant Amber, leading those two to leave the experiment early. “Closure? I didn't need closure from Matthew,” said AD after their tense final conversation in the pods. “I think when he left that was all the closure I needed. He did reach out and apologize and I accept it. We're friends.”
This led to AD moving forward with an engagement to Clay, who was initially so focused on looks that he almost screwed things up with her. “As we go through life, you have your ups and downs. Definitely through this experiment, I was 100% myself. In the real world, I'm naturally a guy that goes off of the physical looks so me even doing this process was me breaking down the way how I approach dating,” Clay shared. “I think AD really walked me through to get past that.”
Meanwhile, Jess was in a love quadrangle with Jimmy, Chelsea, and Trevor. Jimmy ended up proposing to Chelsea, which led to an iconic line from Jess saying that he would "choke” when he realized what he missed out on. “I had closure in the pods with him during that last conversation. When I told him he was going to choke when he saw me, I didn't fully mean it in the physical sense of that. I meant in every sense of that word. Like I know how much I have to offer someone and I just knew that he was going to be missing out. I had a lot of peace leaving there and I felt like everything happened the way it was supposed to.”
As the first single mom to be featured on the show, Jess continued that she didn’t think she and Jimmy made sense in the long run: “Ultimately, I think he and I both knew that he would not fit into the dynamic with my daughter and I, so I was very happy and at peace with everything.”
Trevor seemed to be all in on Chelsea, getting a sweet edit as the guy who was fumbled when she accepted Jimmy’s proposal. Although he seemed skeptical of their engagement. “I do,” he told me when asked if he thinks if he proposed first that things would’ve gone differently, “and the reason is why because whenever you have a date with someone late at night the day before they're fresh in your mind that next morning. The day before proposals, I had a really early date with Chelsea and then she met with Jimmy right at night. It was like that for me too with girls. Like Chelsea was typically my last date so she was always fresh in my mind. I think they set it up that way. Jimmy got to propose first after like having a five and a half hour date with Chelsea the night before, so I do think that played a role. I'm not saying like she made the wrong choice or anything, but I think things might have been differently if I had that late night date.”
The online discussion around Trevor however went from love to rage when he was exposed as a scammer. He allegedly had a girlfriend when he went on the show who revealed the texts she had with him about his plan to go on the show for fame. “I will be depicted […] in the kindest most genuine way possible with the cutest story you could have come up with,” he said in text messages to his now ex. “I didn’t get to the point of proposing but she left me on the last day for another guy. Her name was Chelsea.” In follow up texts, he allegedly wrote: “I hope you know how much I love you. And had to pretend that this wasn’t real life to say anything I said.” He additionally texted, “Well good news for me at least Chelsea is still on the show. If she wasn’t I’d have no chance of being shown.” Trevor even hinted that he met another man from the show on his flight out there that also had a plan to go on the show and not get married. Looks like that plan to become America’s Love Is Blind sweetheart has backfired.
Speaking of sweethearts of this season though, Amy and Johnny used important conversations about family planning and birth control to grow even closer as a couple. “It definitely made me stronger [in] standing my ground and being firm on my beliefs and my decisions. It was an important conversation to have, especially if we were going to take that next step and get married,” shared Amy. “I feel it was definitely very empowering, but at the same time I felt seen and heard and that was very important.”
“I feel like in the pods we really didn't discuss too many things we had a lot of push back on or a lot of difficult conversations. We definitely talked about very important matters, but when we got to the DR, when we got back to Charlotte [and] actually started having those conversations, it really let me see Amy in a different light as far as okay when we are married for 10 plus years and we do have this big thing that comes up, how are we going to react to it?” Johnny continued. “So I really like the fact that we were able to have a tough conversation where we had to take certain breaks in between it to get more information and then bring it back to each other.”
