From Zero Day to La Dolce Villa, Should You Add These To Your Watchlist?
From Italian adventures to political thrillers, Pop Culture Planet is calling out the movies and shows you don’t want to miss… and the ones you might.
Kinda Pregnant
In Kinda Pregnant, Lainy (Amy Schumer) is a middle school teacher who just got broken up with when her best friend Kate (Jillian Bell) breaks the news that she’s pregnant. Feeling left out and lost in life, she wears a fake baby bump and lives a double life that pulls her to her soulmate, but her lies catch up to her.
This film is pretty much classic Schumer with a lead character who’s insecure, jealous, and self-loathing. It all felt very one note where the humor and the emotional beats had no impact whatsoever. The whole concept feels ridiculous with Lainy doing the absolute most insane things to keep her secret that just feel too outlandish, like smashing her belly onto the floor. There’s not enough substance to allow the comedians and actors to land their jokes nor the heartfelt moments. Kinda Pregnant is a flop.
Kinda Pregnant is out on Netflix.

La Dolce Villa
Scott Foley and Maia Reficco star in La Dolce Villa about a father who rushes to Italy to talk his daughter out of buying a $1 Tuscan villa. They both end up finding so much more in the beautiful city.
Together, the duo reconnect as father and daughter, discover new dreams to chase, and find their own romances in The Eternal City. The story mainly focuses on Foley and his romantic future, but I wish they gave Reficco more equal screen time. The European adventure has a sweet and charming Hallmark-style energy that you can’t help but fall in love with. By the end, you’ll be ready to book your own Italian vacation.
La Dolce Villa is streaming on Netflix.

Zero Day
A widespread cyberattack sends a nation into panic and a former U.S. President is called to investigate who is behind the event in Zero Day.
As his first major TV role, Robert De Niro’s performance as former President George Mullen is nothing short of spectacular. He’s courageous and inspiring despite the public and his own daughter Alexandra (Lizzy Caplan) seeing him as unfit as he’s passed his prime. As the investigation gets deeper, Mullen uncovers a web of lies and conspiracies that I fully enjoyed. The supporting cast, especially Jesse Plemons as the President’s right hand man, are incredible, with an emotional conviction that leaps off the screen. Zero Day is another political thriller that packs themes that feel truer than ever.
Stream Zero Day on Netflix.
