Alaqua Cox Becomes First Deaf And Native American Lead In Marvel’s Echo Series Trailer

tv

The new Marvel series Echo is making waves with many firsts. It will be TV-MA rated, every episode will be available to binge all at once, and it’s the first to debut on Disney+ and Hulu simultaneously. The show is also the first to feature deaf and Native American character Maya Lopez, played by Alaqua Cox, as the lead.

The trailer shows a young Maya being watched by Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) as she’s denied ice cream and mocked by the vendor. Fisk does not hesitate to punish the vendor with several punches to the face, which Maya witnesses. His criminal empire and Maya’s rage make her unleash her buried feelings into villainy.

Her pain and trauma will be unveiled in this gritty, edgy series that is set after the events of Hawkeye. Blood, brutality, intense missions, and cinematic fight scenes encapsulate the series.

Chaske Spencer, Graham Greene, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Zahn McClarnon, and Cody Lightning round out the cast.

The five episode series Echo premieres January 10, 2024 on Disney+ and Hulu.
