Is Sick A Good Pandemic Slasher Film?
Scream meets the Covid era in Peacock's new original film Sick — but is it good?
Set in April of 2020, we follow two best friends, played by Gideon Adlon and Bethlehem Million, quarantining at a lake house at the very beginning of the pandemic — until they end up being threatened by an unsuspecting visitor.
The first two acts of this film start off really slow. The acting is weak and you just don't care about any of these characters, but things change when the third act hits. This film is co-written by Kevin Williamson who wrote Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer and they definitely take the tropes from those movies and give them a very surprising twist. It’s unfortunate it takes too long to find its groove because the kills are gruesome (move over, M3GAN!) and each new reveal will have you in shock.
While Sick isn’t going to change the game, it’s a pretty decent pandemic slasher with impressive kills and surprising reveals, especially when most pandemic movies post-Covid haven’t been very good. Although there is a glaring mistake that finds characters using at home Covid tests which didn’t exist at the time the movie is set. When it comes to the big reveal, you’ll either be on board or rolling your eyes.
Sick is streaming on Peacock.
