Here’s Our Dream Cast For The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping!
It’s official — we’re obsessed with the world of The Hunger Games all over again and now have a chance to dive even further into fan favorite character Haymitch Abernathy’s story with Sunrise on the Reaping. The new Suzanne Collins book explores the world of Panem during the 50th Hunger Games as a young Haymitch takes us on a journey of how he became the victor of the Second Quarter Quell. Along the way, President Coriolanus Snow is still pulling strings to keep control. Lucky for us, a film adaptation is already in the works! Filming begins this July with a release date set of November 20, 2026 — now all we need is the cast! This book has torn at our heart strings, so let’s break down who we’d love to see bring these characters to life!
Walker Scobell as Haymitch Abernathy
With his experience playing charming, rebellious, and sometimes smart alecky characters, Walker Scobell would be a perfect fit. We’d love to see how the Percy Jackson and Olympians actor tackles a young Haymitch.
Charlie Plummer as Haymitch Abernathy
Rumors are already swirling that Charlie Plummer is being eyed to lead the film. He definitely has the golden Abernathy locks that we see in the first Hunger Games movie.
Preston Oliver as Haymitch Abernathy
TikTok fans are loving the idea of 19-year-old actor Preston Oliver playing young Haymitch. Known for his role in Secrets of Sulphur Springs, Oliver brings a natural skepticism to the screen — perfect for a character who doesn't trust easily.
Lola Tung as Lenore Dove Baird
One thing about Lola Tung? She’s makes a great love interest! The Summer I Turned Pretty star has taken the top spot to play Lenore Dove on TikTok. Plus, after making her Broadway debut in Hadestown, we know she’s got the musical chops the Covey crew require.
Tamara Smart as Lenore Dove Baird
Up next, Tamara Smart is joining the world of Percy Jackson and Olympians, but she could also bring to life the empathy and resilience Lenore Dove holds.
Sadie LaFlamme-Snow as Lenore Dove Baird
We already know Sadie LaFlamme-Snow has solid musical chops thanks to The Way Home and would love to see her make her silver screen debut with a solid franchise like The Hunger Games.
Bailey Bass as Maysilee Donner
From Avatar: The Way of Water to Interview With The Vampire, Bailey Bass is not only stunning but a formidable performer. She even owns her own jewelry company called BaiBai Jewelry, which aligns perfectly with Maysilee’s interests.
Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner
From The Haunting Of Hill House to The Handmaid’s Tale to the Ghostbusters reboot, Mckenna Grace has a ton of star power and has proved she can handle edgier works. I can see her throwing some shady insults Drusilla’s way.
Storm Reid as Maysilee Donner
The Euphoria star always plays her characters to the fullest. We’d love to see Storm Reid as the defiant Maysilee Donner.
Faithe Herman as Louella McCoy
From This Is Us to Shazam, Faithe Herman could bring a warm energy to the film as Haymitch’s “sweetheart” Louella McCoy.
Leah Jeffries as Louella McCoy
Another Percy Jackson and the Olympians actor! We’d love to see Leah Jeffries stretch her acting chops with this heart-felt performance.
Asante Blackk as Wyatt Callow
Asante Blackk shines when he’s playing complicated characters, so it would be a no brainer to cast him as the protective Wyatt from District 12.
Miles Brown as Wyatt Callow
Black-ish actor Miles Brown has great comedic timing, but it could be awesome to see him in a more layered role as District 12’s resident oddsmaker.
David Iacono as Wyatt Callow
David Iacono is a lover, not a fighter, in The Summer I Turned Pretty. He could take on the protective role of Wyatt well.
Charlie Bushnell as Wyatt Callow
We love watching Charlie Bushnell play layered characters! The Diary of a Future President actor would be a good fit to show what he can do as a tribute.
Cooper Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee
Philip Seymour Hoffman brought Plutarch Heavensbee to life in the original Hunger Games films. This is one of the times we are rooting for nepotism. Casting Cooper Hoffman to fill his late father’s role seems like a perfect fit.
West Mulholland as Plutarch Heavensbee
Most recently seen in Presence, West Mulholland can bring a rebellious nature to the character needed to help start the revolution.
Noah Jupe as Plutarch Heavensbee
Noah Jupe is no stranger to thrilling franchises after starring in A Quiet Place, so I have no doubt he can add the same depth to this character.
Justice Smith as Beetee Latier
Anyone else see a resemblance between Justice Smith and Jeffrey Wright? Just me? The Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom star is no stranger to playing characters with a background in technology, so this would be a walk in the park!
Lakeith Stanfield as Beetee Latier
At 33, Lakeith Stanfield is at the ideal age range to play of Beetee. With roles in Get Out, Atlanta, and The Changeling, he often brings a unique depth to his characters in both quiet and powerful moments.
Maya Hawke as Wiress Wright
TikTok fans have been outspoken about their love for the Stranger Things actress being cast for Wiress. Maya Hawke could definitely pull off being intelligent and quirky BFFs with Beetee.
Bailee Madison as Wiress Wright
Pretty Little Liars star Bailee Madison is known for her emotional range and intensity, which would make her a great choice for Wiress.
Michelle Fairley as Mags Flanagan
Game of Thrones actress Michelle Fairley can easily command a crowd with no words, so I could see her mentoring the tributes of District 12.
Catherine Keener as Mags Flanagan
Catherine Keener would bring the emotional weight needed for Mags. The Get Out actress brings a strong maternal instinct while being a strong presence for young tributes.
Helena Bonham Carter as Drusilla Sickle
I can just imagine the iconic outfits Helena Bonham Carter would step out in as a Capitol escort. She would dominate this eccentric role while working to keep control over the tributes.
Sarah Paulson as Drusilla Sickle
Sarah Paulson would add a devilish flare to the role of Drusilla that would have us on the edge of our seats.
Angela Bassett as Drusilla Sickle
Angela Bassett can command a room to silence while on screen. While the actress has a regal presence to her, I think she could bring out a sadistic and calculated side for this character.
Jennifer Coolidge as Drusilla Sickle
Who doesn’t love seeing Jennifer Coolidge on screen? The White Lotus star has brought so many quirky and dynamic roles to life. She could add something different to the character of Drusilla.
Kiefer Sutherland as Coriolanus Snow
Another nepotism casting choice we can get behind! It would be a beautiful way to pay tribute to Kiefer Sutherland’s late father Donald Sutherland by having him take on the role of the tyrannical President Snow.
Michael Keaton as Coriolanus Snow
From Batman to Beetlejuice, Michael Keaton has played some iconic heroes and villains. Let’s see how he would handle Panem.
