Demi Lovato, Raven-Symoné, and Kenan Thompson Talk The Price Of Fame in Hulu’s Child Star Trailer

“It came at a price,” says Demi Lovato in the trailer for the Hulu documentary Child Star. We're in a time where conversations about the pros and cons of growing up in the spotlight are becoming more common. Documentaries like Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, Showbiz Kids, and books like I'm Glad My Mom Died highlight how Hollywood stars who grew up in the industry are now using their stories to spark change — especially in a world where technology exposes kids to the larger world at a younger age.

Lovato's makes her directorial debut with Child Star as the trailer teases insights from herself as well as stars like Raven-Symoné, Drew Barrymore, JoJo Siwa, Kenan Thompson, Christina Ricci, and Alyson Stoner. The documentary explores not just the hardships of growing up famous ,but also the highs, giving these actors a chance to reflect on what was both taken from them and given to them.

Thompson opens up about the lack of control he had over his finances, admitting, “I was struggling. My first accountant ran away with my biggest earnings,” while Stoner talks about the intense pressure she felt.

Despite these challenges, some light moments shine through, like Ricci’s recollection of discovering sparkling water: “These rich people with their bubbly water!”

It all culminates with a powerful question: is it worth it? Find out when Child Star premieres on Hulu on September 17.
