tv

A great soundtrack can really make a show or film and Heartstopper absolutely nails it every season!

In their first season, they gave lesser known artists a platform while simultaneously adding value and tone to the show. Season 2 was no different, but they also added tracks from established favorites like Taylor Swift and The 1975 too. The mix of pop hits and alternative tracks brings you right back to the feeling of being a teenager fallling in love for the first time. Pop Culture Planet’s Jordan Bohan identifies the songs you need to add to your playlist ASAP.

Episode 1: Out

The opening scene of this season is soundtracked by “Shatter” by Maggie Rogers. As we are introduced to Nick and Charlie’s honeymoon phase, “Shatter” brings us back into the world of teenage angst.

When Charlie hosts a hangout with all of his friends, “Out of My League” by Fitz and the Tantrums plays. The pop hit accentuates the new couple’s romance while they try to restrain from public displays of affection.

Episode 2: Family

Carmody’s song “Paradise” plays Nick and Charlie hang out in the park with Nellie. The scene parallels one from the first season, but this time Nick isn’t scared to express his romantic feelings and kiss Charlie in a public setting.

Episode 3: Promise

When Nick plans to tell the Rugby boys about his relationship with Charlie, we hear “The Sound” by The 1975 play. Nick and Charlie are at a party together to celebrate the end of exams.

As Tao realizes he has romantic feelings for Elle, he researches how to flirt and ask her out on the school computer while “Retrospect” by Vistas plays.

Episode 4: Challenge

As the crew explores the museums of Paris, “mona lisa” by mxmtoon plays. The pop love song fully encapsulates the romance of Paris and young love especially from artist Elle’s point of view.

Episode 5: Heat

Elle and Tao have their ups and downs this season while navigating their transition from friends to more. When they finally share a kiss in the museum, “Fall in Love With A Girl” by Cavetown plays.

Gabrielle Aplin’s “Never Be The Same” accompanies Nick and Charlie’s journey running through Paris. The pop song embraces the rush of being in love and exploring a new city.

Episode 6: Truth/Dare

As the Paris Squad explores the sights of Paris, “Bros” by Wolf Alice plays. Each of the characters has their own romantic moments together.

Episode 7: Sorry

Baby Queen had multiple songs on the season 1 tracklist and has become an integral part of the sound of the show. She wrote a new song called “We Can Be Anything” especially for this second season, which plays as the gang returns from Paris and reflects on their trip. Baby Queen even makes a cameo this season as the live band at the prom.

Conan Gray’s song “Crush Culture” was a notable addition to the soundtrack. As we are introduced to Isaac’s aromantic storyline, “Crush Culture” soundtracks the character’s thoughts on romantic culture while growing up around those beginning their first relationships. He has this realization about himself at the art gallery as an artist perfectly describes his feelings.

Episode 8: Perfect

Nick decides that he wants to come out fully by posting a photo of him and Charlie on Instagram with the caption “Boyfriends (I’m Bi, actually).” As he drafts the post, “Colours of You” by Baby Queen plays. This is the return of their song from season 1, which was written especially for the duo. It perfectly depicts the impact and impression Charlie has had on Nick.

After Darcy confides in Tara about her relationship with her family, we hear “Seven” by Taylor Swift. The song depicts the trials of not having a great relationship with your family and someone wanting to help them find a new home.

The most notable song of the season was “ur so pretty” by Wasia Project. The band is composed of William Gao, who plays Tao in the series, and his younger sister Olivia Hardy. The song plays in the final scene after an intense heart-to-heart conversation between Charlie and Nick.
