The Cast Of Children of Blood and Bone Is Stacked!
Your new favorite fantasy just unveiled its epic cast! Based off the book by Tomi Adeyemi comes Children of Blood and Bone, which follows young heroine Zélie as she tries to restore magic to the kingdom of Orïsha. Even more exciting, this fantasy world is populated by an all Black cast!
The Woman King’s Thuso Mbedu has been cast in the leading role of Zélie, while Amandla Stenberg plays Princess Amari. Damson Idris is Amari’s brother Prince Inan and Tosin Cole is playing Zélie’s brother Tzain. Additional cast members include Academy Award winner Viola Davis as Mama Agba, Cynthia Erivo as Admiral Kaea, Idris Elba as Lekan, Lashana Lynch as Jumoke, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran. Meanwhile Regina King, Diaana Babnicova, and Bukky Bakray are in negotiations to take on roles. Talk about Black excellence — this cast is STACKED!
Acclaimed filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood, best known for directing Love & Basketball, The Old Guard, and The Woman King, is taking up the mantle of directing this film. “I am so honored and excited to bring Tomi’s Children of Blood and Bone and the vibrant world of Orisha to life,” she said in a statement. Our incredible ensemble reflects the whole of the diaspora. This is where our magic lies.” Along with directing the film, she is co-executive producing and has co-written the script with Adeyemi.
Production is set to begin in South Africa in the coming weeks. Children of Blood and Bone releases January 15, 2027 in IMAX.
