The Mandalorian and Grogu Are Headed To The Big Screen In Their Next Journey!

The Mandalorian series first graced TV screens in 2019 and has been the most well-received live-action series within the Star Wars universe — serving not only as an in depth view of the precious character known as Grogu, more popularly known as the endearing Baby Yoda, but also as a fresh perspective on the beloved, animated characters from Dave Filoni’s Clone Wars. Beginning five years after the events of Return of the Jedi and the fall of the Galactic Empire, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe — Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter. The Mandalorian follows the journeys of the lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. While on one of his quests, the Mandalorian stumbles upon Grogu, a baby version of the character Yoda, and is tasked by the Imperial remnant forces to retrieve The Child (Grogu). The duo stick together, abandoning any and all tasks, and look out for each other. You could say the Mandalorian is no longer a lone gunfighter.

Now, the much loved pair are hitting the big screen for the first time! The Star Wars feature film, directed and produced by Jon Favreau, alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, is set to begin production this year. While we don’t know much about the premise of the soon to be very anticipated film, or if Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as the Mandalorian, we do know this film will be big. “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting,” director Favreau shared, while Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm and the soon-to-be producer of this upcoming film, added, “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”

The Mandalorian & Grogu will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate, which includes films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing Ahsoka season 2.
