From The Wild Robot to How To Die Alone, Should You Add These To Your Watchlist?

From robots in the wild to a near death experience that changes everything, you don’t want to miss these new movies and shows.

How To Die Alone

In How To Die Alone, Natasha Rothwell plays Mel, a broke JFK airport employee who finds a renewed passion to live life to the fullest after a near-death accident.

Natasha Rothwell continues to prove how much of a superstar she is as both the creator and star in How To Die Alone. The comedy spans a unique range of satirical and surreal to more introspective and grounded moments that really work. Similar to America Ferrera in Ugly Betty, Mel’s transformation is realistic and well-paced. She doesn’t just automatically flip a switch and become a better version of herself. Through her flaws, she continues to find herself and realize that she deserves more. If anything, the season could’ve been longer to show more of Mel’s inner circle.

How To Die Alone is streaming on Hulu.

Never Let Go

I can’t stop thinking about Never Let Go. Led by Halle Berry, it’s about a family that have been haunted by an evil spirit for years, but their safety is put to the test when one of her kids questions if the evil is even real.

This is my favorite type of thriller that keeps you guessing and makes you analyze everything. I love all the hidden details in this dark fairytale as you’re torn trying to figure out if Berry’s character is crazy or if there’s actually an evil out there. The fact that this family is starving too makes you wonder how you can trust anything. Chilling, unsettling, creepy… this is the most stressed I’ve been in a movie theater in years. While Halle Berry delivers, it’s young newcomers Anthony B. Jenkins and Percy Daggs IV who anchor the film.

Never Let Go is playing in theaters.

The Wild Robot

Based on the children’s book by Peter Brown, Dreamworks’ animated film The Wild Robot has stolen all of our hearts as Roz (Lupita Nyong’o) the robot creates her own found family and home when she is stranded on an island.

While it took a little bit of time to warm up, The Wild Robot is full of stunning visuals and a heartwarming tale of "mother" and son. The voice cast is star-studded, with the stand outs being Nyong’o and Kit Connor as Brightbill. The messages of kindness and the power of saying “I love you” are moving and will relate to all kinds of families. The tears got me in the final act!

The Wild Robot is playing in theaters.
