Ghostbusters: Afterlife Star Mckenna Grace Releases Debut Single “Haunted House” Tied To Film

At only 15 years old, Mckenna Grace has already had an impressive career with roles in I, Tonya, Captain Marvel, Troop Zero, The Haunting of HIll House, and more. In the newly released Ghostbusters: Afterlife, she plays whip smart young ghostbuster Phoebe Spengler… and her debut single “Haunted House” is paired with the films’ release. While not initially written or recorded for the film, when Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman heard it, he immediately wanted to use it for the movie’s end credits.

“Over the pandemic I went through a rough time in my personal life, and I wanted to write a song about how even after someone’s not in your life anymore, their memory never really leaves you,” said Grace about her debut song. “You could take it as a breakup song, but it could also be about a friend or a family member or any kind of relationship that’s ended.”

Grace wrote “Haunted House” on her living room floor with co-writer Lily Kincade. The music video for the song was conceived by Grace and co-directed with Danny Corey in an alleged real haunted house over Halloween weekend in Southern California.

While we know Grace best for her acting chops, she’s been nurturing her passion for songwriting and music behind the scenes for years. She taught herself ukulele at the age of 11 and really immersed herself in the songwriting process to cope with the isolation of lockdown. She’s begun to collaborate with co-writers and work to sharpen her process when it comes to creating songs. She inked a deal with Photo Finish Records to release music in 2020 and continues to use free time on sets to work on her music.

You can watch the “Haunted House” music video, above, and stream the song on music platforms. Plus don’t miss it in the credits for Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
