tv

Gossip Girl is known for its iconic Thanksgiving episodes. If you think your family is dysfunction, watch these episodes and re-evaluate. These holiday specials are packed full of drama, secrets, relationship breakthroughs, and breakups making them anything but filler episodes. Pop Culture Contributor Jordan Bohan breaks down all the Gossip Girl Thanksgiving episodes just in time for holiday dinner.

“Blair Waldorf Must Pie!” (Season 1, Episode 9)

Dan (Penn Badgley) hears that Serena (Blake Lively) and her family are spending Thanksgiving alone at The Palace so he invites them to spend the holiday with his family. This reunion creates an uncomfortable situation for Rufus and Lily, whose children are unaware of their romantic history. Blair's (Leighton Meester) emotions spiral out of control when she learns that her father isn't coming home for the holiday.

"The Magnificent Archibalds" (Season 2, Episode 11)

Blair is not happy about her mother's new boyfriend Cyrus Rose who is invited to Blair's favorite holiday. Serena is dating Cyrus' son Aaron, but isn't sure she's ready to fill him in on her history. Jenny (Taylor Momsen) is considering emancipation and isn’t on good terms with Rufus because of her skipping school to work on her fashion designs. She quit her internship and has been hanging around with her new model friend Agnes. Dan tried to get close to Chuck's (Ed Westwick) dad Bart to write an exposé, but Chuck caught on to him and threw him out. Chuck is also helping Nate (Chace Crawford) who has been getting close to Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), as he deals with the fall of his dad fleeing the country.

"The Treasure of Serena Madre" (Season 3, Episode 11)

All signs point to disaster as the gang gathers around the table. Dan's girlfriend has broken up with him because she believes he has feelings for Vanessa. Vanessa's estranged mother returns and has opinions on many things she has no right to care about. Lily has been lying to Rufus about traveling to see her mother all summer, which her mother Cece knows all too well. Jenny has no idea that it was Eric who orchestrated her public embarrassment at cotillion. There's certainly been a vibe between Nate and Serena, but she just started an affair with Nate's married cousin Tripp.

“Gaslit” (Season 4, Episode 10)

Leading up to the holiday, Juliet is hellbent on taking down Serena. When her first plan doesn't work, she enlists Jenny and Vanessa to assist her. After turning both Dan and Nate against her, Juliet also drugs Serena and kidnaps her. She forges Serena’s withdrawal papers from Columbia, convincing her family that she's reverted to her party girl ways. Blair and Chuck have broken up and Nate is still trying to repair his parents' relationship.

"It's Really Complicated" (Season 6, Episode 8)

Dan and Serena are back together, even though Serena is fresh from a breakup with a much older man. His daughter Sage is clearly gunning for Queen B status. Lily has reunited with Bart against Chuck’s feelings, who has slowly been uncovering his father's list of crimes and misdeeds. As he unravels Bart's web of lies, Chuck himself is losing it, leading to his and Blair’s breakup. Meanwhile, Dan has been writing an exposé about the entire group which could ostracize him from his closest friends and family.
