The Premiere Of NBC’s Found Delivers A Bombshell Of An Ending
After escaping her abductor as a child, Gabi Mosely (Shanola Hampton), who now works in public relations, enlists her crisis management team to make sure there is someone looking out for the forgotten missing people. But, unbeknownst to anyone, this investigator is hiding a secret of her own. That’s the premise of the first episode of NBC’s series Found, a new fall series that you don’t want to miss.
The focus on missing children is an important mission in a world where almost half a million kids go missing a year in the United States alone. The crime fighting team members each have personal experience with the crime, making them as determined and focused as ever. The first episode draws on the personal history of Gabi who was abducted as a child and held captive until her teen years when she escapes alongside a younger girl named Lacey (Gabrielle Walsh).
We are introduced to Margaret (Kelli Williams), a member of Gabi’s team and a mother whose son was taken. It is revealed that she has been looking for her son for 13 years and he is still missing. She is skilled in pinpointing small details that reveal clues as to how to save these children. She notices things no one else did, from outside locks on a foster home’s doors to physiological observations of truth telling behavior.
In an intense moment of convincing the mother of a missing child not to take her life, Dhan (Karan Oberoi) reveals that he too was once missing and abandoned by the people that were supposed to look after him. The last member of the team, Zeke (Arlen Escarpeta) is the team’s tech wizard that works out of his own home and helps with all things digital and hacking. After the case is solved, Zeke is seen having an emotional breakdown while on the phone with his mother. His experience with their case focus is yet to be revealed.
The first episode explores the work of Gabi’s team, which has led to them being labeled as a group of vigilantes. This independent group seems to be solving crimes faster than the police and makes a point to share this with the public. The series comments on the bias that police have when it comes to finding children of minority groups or lower class families. This issue is pertinent as the public perception of police work has been in question for many years.
What at first seems to be a typical crime drama flips with a sudden bombshell ending. As the episode closes out, Gabi is shown bringing dinner and a case file down to her overly protected basement. There, it is revealed that Gabi has been holding her former abductor (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) captive herself and using him as a psychological case study to assist in her investigations.
In a world so focused on the line between good and evil, this gray area of perspective will have you questioning Gabi’s actions. With the team having such close experience with this type of crime, it is nerve wracking to see how this line of work will effect them. The shocking ending to the premiere is a promise of an intriguing and drama filled season to come.
