The Most Anticipated Movies Of 2025

Video game adaptations, movie musicals, and sequels galore… we’re talking about the most anticipated movies of 2025. As a new year begins, Pop Culture Planet is sharing recommendations of the movies you need to add to your watch list.

A Minecraft Movie

Following the trend of video game adaptations is none other than A Minecraft Movie. Based on the open world game, viewers will follow a ragtag group of individuals who recruit the help of craft master Steve to get back home. The star-studded cast includes Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen.

A Minecraft Movie releases in theaters on April 4, 2025.

Avatar: Fire and Ash

Three years after the success of Avatar: The Way of Water, the third installment in the series Avatar: Fire and Ash is on its way! James Cameron will tap into a darker side for this story, promising to explore the Na’vi people even further and perhaps balancing the scales between good and bad.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to release on December 19, 2025.

Ballerina

The John Wick spin-off Ballerina follow Ana de Armas as a young assassin named Eve Macarro. Training in the traditions of the Ruska Roma, the film will track Eve’s revenge journey on her father’s death. Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Anjelica Huston, Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves are slated for this action thriller.

Ballerina premieres June 6, 2025 in theaters.

Captain America: Brave New World

In the first of three Marvel films of 2025, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) will be at the center of international affairs, discovering the truth behind the real threat. The trailer gives us our first intense look at Red Hulk and, might I just say, he looks epic.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to land in theaters on February 14, 2025.

Elio

Pixar isn’t done tugging on our heartstrings just yet. Their newest story follows Elio, a little boy with an overactive imagination. When he’s abducted by an alien spaceship and transported to the Communiverse, he is mistaken as Earth’s true leader. The film features Yonas Ascunsion Kibreab as the title character, and he’s joined by Brad Garrett, Zoe Saldana, Jameela Jamil, and America Ferrera.

Elio hit theaters June 13.

Fear Street: Prom Queen

The “It Girls” of Shadyside High are fighting over the title of Prom Queen for the 1988 prom. But the candidates begin to vanish when an unusually nominee emerges. India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Chris Klein, Lili Taylor, Katherine Waterston, and Ariana Greenblatt star.

The Fear Street saga continues with Fear Street: Prom Queen on Netflix in 2025.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2

Freddy Fazbear is coming back for some more haunting! Blumhouse has announced a sequel to the Five Nights At Freddy’s film that will be filled with more animatronic antics as the story deepens. Matthew Lillard has even teased his return for the anticipated sequel!

Freakier Friday

Over two decades later, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reunite for the Freaky Friday sequel Freakier Friday. Tess and Anna will be swapping bodies once again, but this time, Anna is a mother herself and a soon-to-be stepmother. And talk about a BIG deal — our favorite fictional band Pink Slip will return! We’re promised tons of chaos and lots of nostalgia.

How To Train Your Dragon

Fans have been impatiently waiting for the How To Train Your Dragon live-action remake since its announcement last year. The film will bring viewers back into the isle of Berk with Mason Thames, Gerard Butler, Nico Parker, Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Ruth Codd, Harry Trevaldwyn, and more.

Join in on the adventure when the film hits theaters on June 13, 2025.

Karate Kid: Legends finds Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan reprising their roles for a team-up to help Han’s newest protégé Li Fong.

Lilo and Stitch 

Lilo and Stitch, one of Disney’s most beloved movies, is getting a live-action remake! Nearly 23 years after the original film hit theaters, our family favorite alien Stitch is returning to the big screen with Maia Kealoha as Lilo. Hannah Waddingham, Billy Magnussen, and Zach Galifianakis round out the cast.

M3GAN 2.0

The sequel to the 2023 horror hit M3GAN, titled M3GAN 2.0, brings back Allison Williams as Gemma and Violet McGraw as Cady. Ivanna Sakhno joins the cast as a dangerous AI named Amelia, created by the military whose purpose is to take over the world. The plot continues the story of Gemma and Cady, who are now living with the sentient doll M3GAN. 

M3GAN 2.0 is set to release on June 27, 2025.

Mickey 17 

Parasite director Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 finds Robert Pattinson as a disposable employee that is sent on an expedition to colonize an ice world. Each time he dies, he is brought back to life with most of his memories in place as he poses as a science experiment. Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo also star. 

Coming to theaters April 18, 2025.

Now You See Me 3 brings back the thrilling magic-filled heist franchise in a reunion between the original Four Horsemen. Fans can expect new twists as they face fresh challenges, likely involving more intricate illusions and high-stakes adventures.

Disney is bringing the age-old classic Snow White to life in live-action, led by Rachel Zegler. In this tale, the Evil Queen has taken over the kingdom, condemning its people to a life of fear. But Snow White manages to escape and it’s her power, faith, and heart that will unite the kingdom to take a stand.

Snow White will premiere on March 21, 2025.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Phase 6 of the MCU begins with The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The synopsis sets us in a futuristic 1960s, with Marvel’s first family — Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) — battling against the space god Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to release on July 25, 2025.

Our little blue friends the Smurfs are back for an animated musical! The voice cast includes stars like Rihanna, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, Dan Levy, Octavia Spencer, James Corden, and Kurt Russell.

Wicked Part Two

Perhaps the most anticipated film of 2024, Part Two of Wicked will claim that title for 2025 as well. After a year long intermission, audiences will finally be reunited with the wonderful witches of Oz and see how the rest of their story will unfold.

Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures team up with visionary director Leigh Whannel to reimagine Wolf Man. Joined by his wife takes a horrifying turn when a mysterious creature attacks the family, triggering his own monstrous transformation.

Zootopia 2

It’s been almost a decade since the last Zootopia. Judy (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick (Jason Bateman) are officially partners and, though we are unsure what mystery they will be tackling next, it promises to be interesting as they introduce reptiles into the mix. Ke Huy Wuan will join the cast as Gary the Snake who will play a role in their investigation, while Fortune Feimster plays Nibbles.

Zootopia 2 is set to release on November 26, 2025.
