The Biggest Announcements from San Diego Comic Con 2024
This year’s San Diego Comic Con came with so many Internet breaking announcements it’s hard to keep track, but that’s why I’m here. I’m breaking down all the biggest news to come out of the 2024 San Diego Comic Con!
Robert Downey Jr. Returns to the MCU as Doctor Doom
Starting off with the biggest news by far!
Years after Tony Stark’s demise, you’d think Robert Downey Jr.’s time in the MCU was over, but apparently it’s nowhere in sight. Move over Iron Man, RDJ is making his comeback as Doctor Doom!
The Russo Brothers are officially back to direct the next two Avengers movies — Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars — that will find him taking on the new villainous role against the Fantastic Four.
Fantastic Four Gets Official Movie Title
Speaking of the Fantastic Four, Marvel’s first family is finally making their way into the MCU. The highly anticipated film will be titled The Fantastic Four: First Steps, led by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch. Not only was a title announced, but the fab-four will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
The Boys is Getting a Prequel
To remedy the long wait period between the very recent season 4 finale of The Boys and season 5, it was announced at SDCC that a prequel series is in the works!
The new series, titled Vought Rising, will be set in the 1950s as it tells the origins of not only Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash), but also how Vought International became a global and corrupt juggernaut.
Doctor Who Spinoff Series Coming to Disney+
The BBC and Disney+ have ordered a five-part Doctor Who spin-off series. Titled The War Between The Land And The Sea, it stars Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, alongside existing Doctor Who stars Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient.
Fans were also treated to a sneak peek of the upcoming Christmas special with a message from Nicola Coughlan. Coughlan plays Joy, who appears to be the Doctor's companion for the special.
New Percy Jackson Casting
The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is underway. It’ll be adapted from The Sea of Monsters book, which features Percy’s cyclops half brother TysonDisney+ announced that Daniel Diemer will be filling the mighty role and joining the recurring cast.
FROM Season 3 Gets Release Date
The Penguin Trailer Released
Calling all Batman fans! The much anticipated and long awaited The Penguin trailer was released at this year’s SDCC, and it didn’t disappoint.
The trailer gives a glimpse of Ozzy's (Colin Farrell) motivations for building a criminal empire, emphasizing his close relationship with his aging mother, who believes their family to be deserving of a better standing. The trailer also establishes the presence of Sofia Falcone, a gangster played by Cristin Milioti.
The limited series premieres September 19 on Max.
The Batman: Part II Starts Filming In Early 2025
I guess I should’ve saved my bat call to Batman fans for this news — DC revealed that The Batman: Part II will officially start filming in early 2025.
Colin Farrell will not only be reprising his role as The Penguin for the Max series, but it’s been confirmed he’s coming back for vengeance in The Batman sequel.
Wynonna Earp Returns For New 90-Minute Special
It’s been three years since the supernatural western series Wynonna Earp ended its four season run — but Wynonna’s story is far from over. We got a first look at Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, a 90-minute special set to air on Tubi this fall.
Michael C. Hall Returning as Dexter
Showtime announced that Michael C. Hall will join the cast of Dexter: Original Sin to narrate the inner monologue of a young Dexter played by Patrick Gibson. And that’s not all, he’ll also star in another spin-off series called Dexter: Resurrection.

Casting Announcements for SpongeBob and Gremlins: The Wild Batch
At the SpongeBob SquarePants 25th anniversary panel, Mark Hamill surprised the audience with an announcement that he will be the voice of the Flying Dutchman in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.
That wasn’t the only exciting casting news as it as also announced that Simu Liu will be joining the cast of Gremlins: The Wild Batch, out October 3 on Max.
