New Romance Grows Between Rachel and Joshua in Everyone Else Burns Episode 3
The previous episode of Everyone Else Burns showed us what a strong woman Fiona is becoming as she stands firm on her business ventures. Are things looking up for the rest of the Lewis family? Let’s see what happened in this latest episode.
It’s Rachel’s birthday on Friday and she’s never had a proper celebration. Joshua suggests she come over to his apartment that day if she’s not too busy. Of course, she doesn’t know what to think. She gains a new friend in Julie when Elder Samson pairs the women up in groups to go out ministering. However, once they’ve walked far enough from the church, it’s revealed that Julie is a rebellious teenager. Rachel seeks out advice from Julie on how to navigate her friendship with Joshua. She agrees to cover for Rachel when it comes to missing bible study to hang out with Joshua on Friday. Julie is relatable and not afraid to just be honest with Rachel while also teasing her about her life.
The day comes closer and Rachel is nervous that Joshua might want to “bang” — as Julie suggested. The complete opposite happens when it’s revealed that Joshua set up a cute celebration for Rachel with cake, candles, balloons, soft music, and a happy birthday banner. To Rachel’s ease, she hugs him tightly. Can I just say that I am rooting so hard for this relationship? You can tell they truly care about each other in their own awkwardly adorable way. It also seems like Rachel might want more than just a friendship with her reaction when Joshua says that “friends always remember birthdays.”
Meanwhile, David decides to switch gears to focus on improving his home life and his marriage. At a dating and courtship talk for the women at the church presented by Elder Abijah, David learns that going out on dates can improve one’s relationship. With that in mind, he asks Fiona if she’d like to go on one and she suggests a new Japanese noodle bar in town. He also asks Aaron for advice on what to give Fiona to which Aaron states that she just wants David to show that he respects her work. He decides to buy her a card reader to help make her business transactions run smoother. On their date, David is amazed that Fiona took the time to learn the menu and rudimentary Japanese, saying, “Fiona, you’re a cultural queen!” It looks like David is making efforts to show Fiona he is appreciative of everything she does. There are still moments where his ego and pride get in the way, like when he turns off the power so Fiona can’t process online orders and when he says he’s unappreciated at work while he’s idolized as employee of the month every time.
We see an unlikely pairing develop when Melissa has to take care of Aaron while his parents are out on the date. She finds him intriguing, while he, in a comedic tone, is forming his opinion on her still. He shows Melissa his drawings and she’s fascinated by the level of detail. When she asks “What do you make of your dad?” Aaron replies, “He finds a lot of things difficult, but he tries.” Truer words were never spoken. I wish we could’ve seen more of Aaron’s complicated relationship with David and hopefully we will in the next few episodes. For now, the drawings continue!
So far, life seems to be treating the Lewis family well as new friendships are developed and new life experiences are had. I’m loving this new series with its unique humor and lovable characters!
