Leslie Grace Suits Up In First Look At Batgirl

Gotham City has a new hero!

In The Heights star Leslie Grace is taking up the mantle of Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl in the upcoming Batgirl film at HBO Max. Following Colombian actress Sasha Calle being announced as Supergirl, Grace, who is Dominican, is the second Latina to take on a superhero role in the DC movie universe.

Now, Grace has shared a first look all suited up. “I use their expectations against them. That will be their weakness. Not mine. Let them all underestimate me…” she tweeted, quoting the Batgirl: Year One comic. “And when their guard is down, and their pride is rising, let me kick their butts.”

The costume is a comic book-accurate look at the suit Barbara Gordon wore in Batgirl: Year One, which the film is adapting. Batgirl will center around the daughter of Police Commissioner James Gordon on her way to becoming a new hero for Gotham. J.K. Simmons will reprise his role as the Commissioner, while Michael Keaton is expected to return to the role of Batman after 30 years. Brendan Fraser will take on the role of villain Firefly.

Batgirl will be the first major DC property to make its debut exclusively on the HBO Max streaming platform.
