Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga Tackle Breakups, College Chaos, and Growing Pains in Max’s Sweethearts Trailer
Max’s Sweethearts trailer, set to The Dare’s “Girls,” plunges into the unapologetic frenzy of breaking up, growing up, and everything in between.
College freshmen and best friends, played by Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga, return to their hometown over Thanksgiving break after making a pact to break up with their high school sweethearts in the name of “having fun and having sex.” The film’s humor ramps up as they stumble through cringe-worthy confrontations, fumble at parties, and navigate the bizarre obstacles of their hometown.
The journey is packed with equal parts comedy and calamity, highlighting the strain their codependent friendship endures as they come face-to-face with the reality of parting from the past. Between shocking run-ins with their exes, awkward family moments and party antics gone awry, the night brings a slew of mishaps that test their friendship and their resolve to break free. Shipka and Hiraga’s chemistry shines in the trailer as they embody the struggle of holding onto your roots while diving into adulthood’s unexpected freedoms and heartbreaks.
A powerhouse cast, including Caleb Hearon, Tramell Tillman, Joel Kim Booster, Christine Taylor, and Charlie Hall, promises to add depth and hilarity to the chaotic homecoming. Directed by Dollface creator Jordan Weiss in her feature debut and co-written with Dan Brier, Sweethearts serves up relatable laughs and truths about independence.
Sweethearts premieres November 28 on Max.
