July TBW: 16 Most Anticipated TV Shows and Movies

The worldwide box office combination of Barbie and Oppenheimer dominated July 2023. Will any of 2024’s July releases measure up? It’s hard to say, but there are some great titles coming to your screens this month. Pop Culture Planet’s Jordan Bohan breaks down all the movies and shows you should add to your watchlist this month.

Despicable Me 4 

The iconic yellow minions return to the big screen this July with the fourth installment of Despicable Me. The beloved characters are sure to make a splash this summer as they continue to dominate in the animation space.

Space Cadet

Florida bartender Tiffany (Emma Roberts) leaves her dead end job to become an astronaut. This party girl lies her way into an elite program but makes the best of it once she gets her foot in the door.

MaXXXine

There’s nothing like the glitz and glam of Hollywood mixed with slasher style horror to get you in the summer spirit. The third film in the Mia Goth-led trilogy hits theaters this month, so catch up on Pearl and X to prep for this hot horror film.

The Imaginary

Amanda gets separated from her imaginary friend Rudger. He must team up with lost imaginaries in order to get back home before he fades away.

The Imaginary premieres on Netflix on July 5. 


The Bachelorette Season 21

Before Love Island or Perfect Match, there was the Bachelor franchise and it is back for season 21! Jenn Tran stars in this season as the first Asian American Bachelorette hoping to find her partner for life.

The Bachelorette season 21 premieres on ABC on July 8. 


Sunny 

An American woman is living in Kyoto when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As consolation, she is gifted a new domestic robot named Sunny who was made by her husband’s electronics company.

Sunny premieres on Apple TV+ on July 10. 


Sausage Party: Foodtopia

Many may question: why there is a Sausage Party spinoff series? I beg the question, why not? In this adult animated comedy about a utopian society run by food, they learn they may need the help of humans after all.

Sausage Party: Foodtopia premieres on Prime Video on July 11. 


Longlegs

Lee Harker is an FBI agent assigned to an unsolved serial killer case that takes an unexpected turn. She finds a personal connection to the killer and must stop him before he strikes again.

Longlegs comes to theaters on July 12.


Descendants the Rise of Red

Descendants of the Queen of Hearts and Cinderella travel back in time to prevent disastrous events that take place in Auradon.

Descendants the Rise of Red premieres on Disney Plus on July 12. 


Simone Biles Rising

Only days before the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris kickoff, Netflix is set to release a four part documentary detailing Simone Biles return to gymnastics after retiring years ago.

Simone Biles Rising premieres on Netflix on July 17.


Cobra Kai Season 6

Returning for its sixth and final season, Cobra Kai promises to wrap up this beloved story initially started in The Karate Kid.

Cobra Kai returns to Netflix for season 6 on July 18. 


Twisters 

Out of all the films coming back with a sequel, Twisters was an interesting choice. Can Daisy Edgar Jones and Glen Powell revive the natural disaster genre? Only time will tell.

2024 Summer Olympics

The 2024 Summer Olympics kick off in Paris July 26 with the opening ceremony airing on NBC.


Deadpool & Wolverine

The highly anticipated third Deadpool movie ia almost here! In hopes of saving the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool will team up with fan favorite Wolverine, complete with witty, sarcastic banter and gory action sequences.

Elite Season 8

Returning for its eight and final season, Elite follows the students of an exclusive boarding school in Spain where students of different classes clash.

Women in Blue

Four women attempt to defy the conservative norms on 1971 Mexico as they become the first female police force. They soon discover that it is a publicity stunt to distract the media from a real serial killer whom the women intend to hunt down.

Women in Blue premieres on Apple TV+ July 31.
