Jesse Eisenberg Is Eager To Return For Now You See Me 3: “That Is My Favorite Thing In The World”
Following hits like Zombieland and The Social Network, Jesse Eisenberg joined the cast of 2013’s Now You See Me. The first film finds a group of magicians being tracked by the FBI for pulling off bank heists during their shows and giving the money to their audiences. Now You See Me 2 takes place eighteen months later as the magicians, known as the Four Horseman, are recruited by a criminal mastermind to steal a data chip. In an interview with Pop Culture Planet’s Kristen Maldonado for his new film Manodrome, Eisenberg shared how he landed the role of the self-assured illusionist J. Daniel Atlas in Now You See Me and why he’s eager to return to the role in the newly announced Now You See Me 3.
Eisenberg calls Now You See Me “my favorite thing in the world” to work on. “When Now You See Me was being made, the script wasn't fully developed. I was the first actor they came to. They said, ‘Do you want to be in this movie?’ I said, ‘I like it a lot. What could I play?’ And they said, ‘Well, you could change your character. What would you like to play?’ So I was working with these great writers. I said, ‘I want to play this kind of arrogant, confident showman’ because, as an actor, I’m very nervous,” he told me. “I’m a showman, but I’m nervous. That wouldn’t be great. So I got to play in two movies already this comfortable, self confident person who’s also a performer like me. It was just amazing.”
A third film is confirmed to be in the works with director Ruben Fleischer, who Eisenberg worked with on both Zombieland movies, and writer Seth Grahame-Smith. “It was like a vacation because I got to feel good about myself all day on set like the character is. So when I heard that [they’re] making a third one, [I was like] please, please!” Eisenberg exclaimed. “If they could make these one a year, I could finally wean myself off anti-depressants because they make me feel so great.”
While no release date has been confirmed for Now You See Me 3 yet, the first two movies are available to stream on Max. Meanwhile Eisenberg’s new film Manodrome is streaming on Prime Video.
