This Is Why Dylan Sprouse Is Not Interested In A Suite Life Reboot

While Dylan Sprouse prepared for the release of his new film Beautiful Wedding, Kristen Maldonado of Pop Culture Planet connected with him about the role that made him a household name and if he sees himself ever returning to The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

If you were a Disney kid, you grew up with icons like Raven-Symoné, Hilary Duff, Selena Gomez, and Dylan and Cole Sprouse. In 2005, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody hit Disney Channel as it followed twins Zack and Cody Martin causing mischief in the fancy hotel they live in with their lounge singer mom. It led to a 2008 spin-off titled The Suite Life on Deck that had them setting sail on a Semester-At-Sea style program and a sci-fi The Suite Life Movie. In 2017, Raven-Symoné returned to the role of Raven Baxter in a sequel to That’s So Raven titled Raven’s Home, which finds her as a mother to twins — one of which has psychic powers too. A Lizzie McGuire continuation was in the works with Hilary Duff as of 2019, but ultimately got scrapped for being too mature. This January, it was announced that Selena Gomez and David Henrie were moving forward with a Wizards of Waverly Place sequel. It will star Henrie as a non-magical adult Justin Russo who is thrust back into that world when a wizard in training shows up on his doorstep looking for help to save the magical world.

With the continuation of so many of our favorite Disney Channel shows, will we ever see a sequel to The Suite Life? “I don't know, man,” Sprouse told me. “Look, maybe this is just a philosophical thing, but I have so many movies and so many television shows from when I was a kid that I would actually just hate to see remade. The truth is because part of what you love and enjoy about those things is the way it was shot, the way it looks, the way it sounds, how different it was back then to how it is now. That’s part of the nostalgia.”

He continued: “There’s this trend to try and remove the nostalgia from anything nowadays — all series, all franchises — and I don't think that's a good trend. I'm not on that side. I mean, sure, you could do it, but wouldn't that ruin a little bit of the love that those people have for what it was? Sometimes that should just be as it is. Just close the book and move on towards something else. So personally no for me. I hate to be that guy who closes the door hard, but like personally no for me. But I'm not going to say never. Maybe there's a world.”

His Beautiful Wedding co-star Virginia Gardner chimed in that she would love to play his role in a sequel. “I'll volunteer as tribute. I'll play, um, were you Zack or Cody?,” she asked, with Sprouse, laughing, “I was Zack. That sounds good, sounds good.”

In the meantime, catch his new film Beautiful Wedding when it releases on digital and on demand on February 13.
