So Many Things Change For The Lewis Family in Everyone Else Burns Episode 5
In last week’s Everyone Else Burns, we left off with David taking Aaron on a road trip to his uncle’s trailer with a cute scene featuring the song “Build Me Up Buttercup.” Now this episode marks a pivotal moment in the series with moments that had me saying O-M-G. Let’s take a look at what changed.
It starts out with David and Aaron arriving at the trailer only for there to be a massive hole on the roof. He tries to make the best of it as he just wants to spend time with Aaron. However, Aaron wants David to admit the real reason he brought him there — to talk about his drawings. Faced with uncomfortableness, David avoids asking Aaron about the meanings and deflects to talk about other things. As the night progresses Aaron separates their spaces in the trailer, while David insists on making a fire to prove his masculinity. After having three failed attempts, David admits that he’s a bad dad and husband, but knows he wants Aaron to be happy and safe.
A fire breaks out and the two sit on top of the car to have a heart-to-heart moment. David tells him that he might not fully understand his drawings, but he’s here for him and agrees to take him to an exhibition Aaron is excited about. It is nice to see David take this initiative to engage in something his son is excited about and to finally admit to his mistakes.
Just when we thought Rachel and Joshua would be endgame… they’re not. Rachel’s teacher springs the news that her university application closes at midnight, but it’s also her and Joshua’s one month anniversary. On top of this, her teacher was fired for sending parents a video of her taking shots and cannot use the laptop she provided her anymore. She asks for Julia’s help by letting her borrow her laptop to get her application done in time. While Joshua plays some board games, Rachel works on her application and stumbles upon pictures of Julia and Joshua at summer camp. She was so excited they knew each other until the kissing pictures popped up. I’m sorry, what?! Yeah, he reveals they hooked up at camp and it’s the reason he was excluded. Rachel wants nothing to do with him and returns home to complete her application.
Fiona becomes a drunk mess during a movie night with Melissa which makes her put on Elder Andrew’s late wife’s wedding ring. She was given the ring to keep in a safe place and now it’s completely stuck. Andrew comes by late at night to retrieve the wedding ring back and Fiona throws herself at him, completely embarrassing herself before throwing up on his tree he dedicated to his late wife Mary. The next morning when David and Aaron return, she hugs David tightly and says she won’t let her family go down the wrong path. However this makes her do the unthinkable. She deletes Rachel’s application! I’m livid at that decision and I bet Rachel will be too after working so hard. Why Fiona, why!?!
This was hilarious to watch, especially Fiona accidentally being drunk and really chaotic at the same time. I’m heartbroken that Rachel and Joshua might not be the endgame love story we wanted. David is truly turning a new leaf to become more empathetic and involved with his family. Simon Bird, Kate O’Flynn, Amy James-Kelly, and Harry Connor are all multifaceted actors that portray these individuals so well and are a delight to watch.
Tune in for the season finale premiering November 30 on The CW at 9:30pm EST.
