Heartstopper Has Been Picked Up For Two More Seasons On Netflix
There’s more queer joy coming to a screen near you as Heartstopper creator and writer Alice Oseman has officially confirmed we’re getting not one, but TWO, more seasons of the hit show on Netflix. “We were overjoyed with the global reaction to Heartstopper and can’t wait to continue the story with two more seasons,” they announced on Netflix Tudum.
Based on Oseman’s graphic novels of the same name, the series puts queer love and friendship at the center of its story in a joyful celebration, punctuated by rainbow confetti and bisexual lighting.. “I hope that it just makes people smile and brightens their day, but I also hope that it inspires, particularly, young queer people to believe that they can find happiness and find romance and find friendship,” Oseman continued, with executive producer Patrick Walters adding: “I’m forever grateful to Alice Oseman for entrusting us with this beautiful, unique story that at its core seeks to uplift the next generation of young LGBTQ+ people.”
Heartstopper does even more than what it set out to achieve. Not only does it uplift the next generation, but it is groundbreaking in its realistic and loving portrayal of a number of LGBTQ+ experiences. The experiences of this close circle of queer friends are normalized as they navigate self-discovery and acceptance while supporting each other in being their most authentic selves. If the next two seasons continue to follow the graphic novels as closely as this first season did, we can expect to see the group of friends travel to Paris and tackle serious issues like anxiety, depression, body image, and eating disorders.
The series stars Joe Locke, Kit Connor, William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Sebastian Croft, Cormac Hyde-Corrin, Rhea Norwood, Tobie Donovan, and Olivia Colman.
