First Look at Netflix’s The Residence Brings Murder, Mystery, and Wry Humor to the White House
Netflix and Shondaland are rolling out the red carpet for their latest venture The Residence, a screwball whodunnit that reimagines the world’s most famous mansion as the backdrop for intrigue, drama, and comedy. With eight one-hour episodes, the show stars Orange is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba as the sharp-witted detective Cordelia Cupp.
Adapted from Kate Andersen Brower’s book of the same name, The Residence explores a disastrous State Dinner gone fatally wrong. With 132 rooms, 157 suspects, and one dead body, the stakes are as high as the tension within the White House. Cupp, a consulting detective for the Metropolitan Police Department, teams up with Randall Park’s skeptical FBI Special Agent Edwin Park in a reluctant partnership to solve the case.
The show’s unpredictable narrative promises an experience that’s as entertaining as it is engaging, combining humor, suspense, and absurd elements. With its fresh take on the murder mystery genre, The Residence centers on the unapologetic and eccentric Cupp as the force propelling the story's emotional and investigative aspects. The ensemble cast has an incredible lineup, including Giancarlo Esposito, Susan Kelechi Watson, Jason Lee, Edwina Findley, and even Kylie Minogue in a guest appearance as herself.
