The Wilds Cancelled After Two Seasons On Prime Video

tv

If you’re like me, you were obsessed with the first season of The Wilds.

The Prime Video series found us exploring the past and present of a group of young women stranded on a deserted island… but they didn’t get there accidentally. The show made us fall in love with this beautifully diverse cast, led by Black, Muslim, Indigenous, and queer characters, and the highs and lows they face. Surviving on an island with a bunch of strangers may be hard, but the flashbacks show that living life as a teenage girl in today’s society can be just as difficult and traumatic. Us ladies deal with a LOT.

The show got great buzz and was quickly picked up for a second season on Prime Video. Between the critical acclaim of The Wilds and Yellowjackets, it seemed like the teen survival drama was having a moment, but when the second season of The Wilds dropped in May, it got a quieter response. While the female characters of season 1 returned, the main premise was focused on a connected storyline with young men at the center. The finale teased a third season with both sets of teens trapped in a new social experiment together.

Unfortunately that next chapter won’t see the light of day as Prime Video has announced the cancellation of the series following these two seasons. Fans have gotten #RenewTheWilds trending on Twitter, focusing on the empowering and diverse female cast and queer relationships. Perhaps the show made a misstep in focusing so heavily on the new male characters in season 2.
