From Huskerdust to Chaggie, The Hazbin Hotel Cast Talks About Your Favorite Ships
If you’re a fan of Hazbin Hotel, then you’re no stranger to the various ships between the characters. Pop Culture Planet’s Kristen Maldonado spoke to creator Vivienne Medrano and the cast about some of our favorite relationships in the series.
Charlie Morningstar is the Princess of Hell with big dreams of rehabilitating the demons of Hell. Luckily, she’s got the love of her life Vaggie by her side through everything. “Vaggie is Charlie's absolute number one supporter, fully committed to every dream and desire that Charlie has,” said Stephanie Beatriz about the relationship. “She's also trying to balance her own realistic grounded worldview with Charlie's rose colored glasses, everyone can be redeemed ideas. They're very, very deeply in love. The two of them are 100% for each other.”
Erika Henningsen agreed, highlighting the series for centering their queer relationship. “It's not the cutesy beginning stage of love, the honeymoon phase. They're so in love. They are each other's ride or die. That is her number one teammate,” she told me. “Charlie definitely has to learn from Vaggie. The way Vaggie walks through the world, Charlie needs to take a little bit of that with her. That's why I love the relationship. This queer relationship at the center of an animated comedy is so special. It's treated with such care and these are just two adult women who love and support one another. They're at that phase in the relationship that's like, ‘You're my girl. Case closed.’”
While we’ll get more of the confirmed relationship Chaggie, there are several other ships fans are dying to know about. Medrano is so excited for fans to see the development of the connection between Angel Dust, played by newcomer Blake Roman, and Husk, voiced by the legendary Keith David. “My favorite thing about that relationship is it is definitely one that develops over the course of the series. This first season we obviously know the initial relationship that Husk and Angel have is carried over from the pilot. Angel’s kind of being a little bit over overbearing in the face of Husk and Husk is not really having it. That is how they start,” she told me. “Some of my favorite episodes really center around developing their relationship and seeing it evolve, so I'm very very excited for people to see that. Those two characters are very important to me and their relationship is very, very important to me, but it is definitely one that I wanted to make sure had the time to really develop.”
Roman shared he even deep dived into the ships around his fan favorite character Angel Dust. “Huskerdust… obviously I can't give anything away, but I love that. That's probably one of my favorite ships. I recently did a deep dive online of all the shipping of the characters. Apparently there is an Alastor x Angel Dust ship possibility,” he said. “It's interesting though because I think Viv’s come out and said that Alastor is asexual, so would it be possible? Would it not be? I don't know. Let's see and find out.”
Kimiko Glenn chimed in: “In Hell, anything is possible.”
