David Reveals His Hidden Secret in Everyone Else Burns Episode 4
I can’t believe we’re more than halfway done with Everyone Else Burns! Things are starting to pick up during this episode with really good moments… and very questionable ones. Let’s explore what happened in episode four.
After their initial date night at the Japanese restaurant, David and Fiona continue going on bi-weekly dates. This time, they took a stroll into the park as David tells her he wouldn’t change a thing about her, their relationship, or himself. Fiona’s reaction is all of us when she asks if he wouldn't change to be more empathetic and a better listener — to which David tells her he didn’t hear her.
David is much more unbearable this episode since he becomes distraught after learning he’s been unfaithful to Fiona… with the girl depicted on raisin packets. I know, weird, right? Not to David though! He even goes as far as to tell the Elders about his so-called infidelity in a dramatic fashion. Somehow along the way this makes him want to do something to make it up to Fiona — who couldn’t care less about the raisin boxes. What was his gift? A brand new TV that Fiona’s been wanting after refusing to fix their old one. It makes Fiona forget for a moment that David is relentless, but doesn’t she deserve better? She does find Elder Andrew attractive and lusts while watching him work out. Maybe this could mean something for the later episodes, but we’re going to have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, after a wonderful birthday celebration with Joshua, Rachel meets up with Julie to tell her what went down on Friday. Julie notices Rachel’s disappointment since she convinced her that they were going to kiss that night. However, Rachel makes it clear that she and Joshua can only kiss if they officially start dating. During their movie night and after stating this boundary, Joshua finally asks her out and Rachel is smitten. I’ll say it again that I absolutely adore these two and loved watching them from friends to lovers. I hope their relationship flourishes beyond this!
What’s going on with our little Aaron? After agreeing to not draw anymore violent depictions of his family members, he switches to his classmates — or really his bullies. The bullying only gets worse when Aaron pins up a drawing of Jesus and John The Baptist enjoying the waters of Jordan. The attention to detail and the intimacy implies a certain meaning that his classmates bully him about with papers stuffed into his locker that say “gay boy.” It seems like no one really paid any attention to how Aaron was treated at school and it’s a sad thing to see. In the end, David ends up taking Aaron on a road trip to his uncle’s isolated trailer for some quality bonding time.
I’m interestd in seeing more of David and Aaron’s father-son relationship in the next episode because I don’t think we get enough about Aaron and his emotions during a crucial time in a young boy’s life. Rachel’s relationship is about to take off into something wonderful — I just hope her family won’t shun her because of this. Fiona is content with the TV, but the larger issue of not being heard still lingers. When will enough be enough for her?
New episodes of Everyone Else Burns premiere every Thursday on The CW at 9:30pm EST.
