Bridget Jones Is Back! Peacock Debuts First Look At Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy
We’ve all said it before: “Just one more chapter...” Well, we’ve reached the final chapter of everyone’s favorite rom-com heroine, Bridget Jones, in her last film, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.
Two-time Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger returns as the relatable British icon for the fourth time since her original debut in 2001. The film series first introduced Bridget to audiences with Bridget Jones’s Diary, where she was celebrated as the everyday, frazzled, hopelessly single woman. She eventually found love with Mark Darcy, portrayed by Oscar winner Colin Firth. The two finally married and had children. It seems like the perfect fairytale ending, right?
Unfortunately, the chapter has closed on Mr. Darcy. In the trailer for the upcoming film, audiences are reunited with the recently widowed Bridget after her husband tragically passed away during a humanitarian mission in Sudan. With her newly single status, and two children, Bridget struggles to open her heart to love again.
Bridget is catapulted into her new life as her family and her gynecologist, played by the wonderful Emma Thompson, pressure her to get back out there. In the midst of throwing herself back into her career, Bridget joins the dating app scene, where she catches the eye of a younger man, played by One Day heartthrob Leo Woodall.
With a new romance, her career, and her new single-mother status, Bridget struggles to be everything to herself and her grieving children. Don’t even get her started on her awkward — perhaps flirtatious — interactions with her son’s science teacher, played by Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The film is directed by Michael Morris, the acclaimed director who brought audiences Better Call Saul. The story is adapted for film by the BAFTA nominated Helen Fielding, author of the Bridget Jones’s Diary book series, with contributions from Emmy winner Abi Morgan and Oscar nominee Dan Mazer.
Gemma Jones and Jim Broadbent return as Bridget’s parents, while Isla Fisher joins the cast as Bridget’s neighbor, Rebecca. Hugh Grant will reprise his role as Daniel Cleaver, the renowned womanizer from Bridget’s past. When previously asked about the upcoming film, Grant revealed that this installment of Bridget’s story is “very, very sad.” Okay, thank you for the warning, Hugh. I’ll get my tissues and ice cream ready.
With the possibility of new love, new friends, and a new life to adapt to, the final chapter of Bridget Jones’s story is sure to be full of heart, friendship, family, and love.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy hits theaters internationally on February 12, 2025, and will stream for U.S. audiences exclusively on Peacock the following day.
