Love Is Blind Season 8 Should’ve Been Stood Up At The Altar
The pods are open and connections are made in Love Is Blind season 8. Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the series has passed the torch to singles in Minneapolis, Minnesota hoping to figure out if love is truly blind. Once a proposal is made, the couples will meet each other for the first time and begin a life together outside of the pods. From physical connections to deep conversations, each couple will make their final decisions at the altar.
As a first-time watcher of the series, I was bored. The first few episodes were a drag with way too much pod time and uninteresting conversations. This cast wasn’t particularly diverse enough, even for the hopefuls not shown in the series. As the connections get deeper, it’s clear a few of these guys were just red flags all around and I couldn’t shake off that feeling.
Between the Madison-Mason-Alex-Meg drama and the Dave-Lauren-Molly drama, some might say that the girls in these situations were a bit catty, but I ultimately think these girls just wanted to protect one another. You can see that after the pods with Lauren and Molly being really good friends with one another and having each other’s back. In the reunion episode, the girls’ comradery is further solidified when backing up their experiences after the weddings, including Madison talking to Monica about the text Joey sent her and Molly standing up for Virginia after seeing Devin at a local bar. With that being said, this season just fell flat compared to the hype past seasons have received. The brewing drama and tension amounted to nothing.
Once out of the pods, most of the drama hinges around Lauren and Dave. Dave is reluctant to have Lauren meet his family and friends due to Lauren’s old fling circulating rumors about his involvement with her. Dave was just too insecure to push past it, even after multiple conversations of Lauren telling him that what the guy is saying is not true. It wasn’t until the reunion episode where Dave seems to take accountability for his faults in their relationship and for believing the guy instead of Lauren. Lauren deserved better than that and, although we can’t tell how genuine his apology is, the situation is tame compared to the rest of the contestants’ drama. The reunion episode is filled with a lot of “he said, she said” moments between the estranged cast members. It’s clear to see that, since filming the season, there’s a lot of unresolved tension and secrets. Many of the men appear to be lying about what they’ve said, with almost every male cast member insisting the girl is lying. I had a headache through all of it because I was expecting for some of them to clear the air with each other, but it just didn’t happen.
I’m glad a lot of these women stood on business and said “no” to getting married because these men were just not it. I was particularly happy with Sara’s decision and knew she wouldn’t say “I Do” to Ben because she wouldn’t compromise her morals nor should she have to. Ben seemed very wishy-washy the entire season with his values and political thoughts or lack thereof, which felt fake even through the reunion episode where he didn’t really seem to take it all that seriously. Let’s not forget that he basically ditched her after they planned to move in together?! Jaw dropped. He also took advice from a previous controversial Love Is Blind cast member and laughed about it, while Sara was clearly hurt by it. I will say, I was so sad for Virginia and Devin’s relationship to crumble because I lowkey didn’t expect it, even though I did notice something was off. They seemed to be on the same page about most things, but their political views were just too different. After seeing how Devin acted in the reunion, props to Virginia to listening to her heart.
The only couple standing at the end of the season were Taylor and Daniel who were really cute together, even though they didn’t have much of my attention throughout the season. They slid under the radar as the most unproblematic couple in the midst of all the drama. However, I was so happy to see them say “I Do” because we needed a true, honest love story to cap off this season! I did wish that they revisited the little bump they had when Taylor suspected Daniel had followed her on Instagram prior to the show. We all saw that Taylor ultimately couldn’t find anything on her phone to suggest that theory, but I do wonder if they ever talked about it again after the wedding. But I guess it doesn’t matter because they seem to have a beautiful relationship and just bought their first house together! A win for love at the end of the day.
Overall, Love Is Blind season 8 had its fair share of drama, but it all felt lackluster and boring. The women deserved better, the men showcased a whirlwind of questionable behavior, the reunion felt empty outide of Alex Warren’s performance, and I dreaded every moment. Let’s pray for a better season 9 when the series goes to Denver, Colorado!
