American Horror Story: Delicate Fell Face First Into Its Season Finale
It’s been quite the rollercoaster ride with American Horror Story: Delicate, but I’m happy it’s over. This season finale proved there was nothing left to the imagination nor up to interpretation for viewers, leaving behind a stale season of predictable plot points and characters that fell flat. I would normally say let’s get into it, but this finale was shockingly short, though that wasn’t the only thing this episode got wrong.
This season never quite hit the mark, which was continuously frustrating to watch. It had all of the right ingredients: Kim Kardashian, AHS alum Emma Roberts, need I go on? This could’ve and would’ve been a great season, but it always came crashing down. It’s no wonder, as the plot is something viewers have grown tired of — the pregnancy trope, women not being able to have it all, we get it. It’s only April and I think the horror genre needs a new theme to fixate on this year.
Nonetheless, the episode starts with a campy scene that got me excited for what was to come in the remaining minutes of this season finale, but per usual, the introduction to this episode was a tease and offered nothing better to follow. Although, I will say, Anna’s demon baby ripping Dex’s hand off was the crème de la creme of this entire season. Now that is what I wanted to see… I just wish we got more of it throughout the season. And, Cara Delevingne’s character, Ivy, forcing Dex to eat his own chewed off hand was ridiculously funny, gory, and campy, aka all of the things AHS fans crave. There were scenes such as this sprinkled throughout this season that gave me a glimmer of hope, but alas, there was never a light at the end of the tunnel.
This season never quite got it right and, with that, this ending felt so abrupt. There was nothing leading up to it, yet everything suddenly happened all in this short, cramped season finale (if you could call it that). I felt as though I was watching a last minute school project where nine episodes was what the students were given and they forgot all about the project’s rules until the last minute. Yes, there were some revelations made during this finale, but none of that wowed me. I mean, come on, we all knew Siobhan had evil intentions from the beginning, Ivy was never going to swoop in and save the day, and Dex was forever going to be human garbage. And no, I didn’t even feel bad for Dex when it was revealed that Siobhan was his real mother and his childhood was essentially a lie.
AHS: Delicate, I wanted you so badly to be good, but you never came through. You cast Kim Kardashian, and might I add that she absolutely kills it, and yet this still wasn’t good. If this season provided us with anything, it’s that we now know that Kim Kardashian can act and AHS creator and legend Ryan Murphy is absolutely essential and integral to the fate of this series.
All nine episodes of AHS: Delicate are now streaming on Hulu.
