A Family Heirloom Unleashes Haunting Truths In The Piano Lesson Trailer

Based on the award-winning play by August Wilson, The Piano Lesson follows the Charles family after the events of the Great Depression in 1936.

The trailer shows Boy Willie (John David Washington) telling his niece about their family’s piano as they touch the inscribed face. He suggests she talks to her mother about the carvings and what they represent.

Willie and his sister Berniece (Danielle Deadwyler) begin to argue as she wants to preserve the piano while Willie hopes to sell it. The flashing scenes depict the chaos unfolding with fire, struggle, and haunting spirits. As Berniece plays a soft tune on the piano, her family surrounds her as Willie repeats his opening line, “That’s your family. That’s your blood.”

Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Fisher, Michael Potts, Erykah Badu, Skylar Aleece Smith, Jerrika Hinton, Gail Bean, and Corey Hawkins round out the cast.

The Piano Lesson premieres November 22 on Netflix.
