So Is Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2 Good?

tv

School’s back in session under the militant authority of Alfea’s former Headmistress Rosalind in Netflix's Fate: The Winx Saga season 2. With new magic, new romances, and new dangers lurking in the shadows, Bloom (Abigail Cowen) and her fairy friends work to save the entire Otherworld... and unlock big mysteries ahead.

While the first season of the show was inconsistent, it did end in a great place that really centered the friendship of the suite mates, so I was cautiously optimistic going into season 2. They added a bunch of new faces including the much-anticipated Flora (Paulina Chávez), Sebastian (Éanna Hardwicke), and Grey (Brandon Grace).

Unfortunately even these new additions can’t save the show, which is weighed down by uneven storytelling, bad writing, and a lack of character development. The friendship also takes a back seat to Bloom being “the chosen one” and feeling like she must do everything on her own. The season picks up as we learn more about the history of the Dragon Flame and the secret behind who Bloom truly is, but the idea of these mysteries can only take you so far when the substance isn’t there.

Similarly to the first season, this new season starts off weak and ends in a better place with a new mystery and big bad underway, but is it enough for a third season? Only time will tell — but with a lack of fairy-led shows, fans deserve more than what this show is serving.

The first two season of Fate: The Winx Saga are streaming on Netflix.
