Walt Disney Studios and Kugali Bring You First Nigerian Series Titled Iwájú

Pan-African entertainment company Kugali and Walt Disney Animation Studios have collaborated for a new six-episode series Iwájú.

The coming-of-age animated series takes place in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria where we meet the main character Tola and her best friend tech expert Kole. Together, they embark on a journey to discover the secrets and dangers hidden in their worlds.

The series features the voices of Simisola Gbadamosi, Dayo Okeniyi, Femi Branch, Siji Soetan, and Weruche Opia.

“Crafting the narrative of Iwájú has been a journey of creative alchemy, blending the rich cultural tapestry of Lagos with imaginative leaps into the future. Collaborating with my Kugali co-founders and the visionary artists at Walt Disney Animation Studios has been nothing short of magical,” said director Olufikayo Ziki Adeola in a statement. “The heartbeat of my hometown resonates through every scene, and I am thrilled for the world to experience this unique fusion of tradition and futurism.”

There’s also a special behind-the-scenes documentary Iwájú: A Day Ahead that’s filmed across three continents that shares the story of the founders of Kugali!

Iwájú and Iwájú: A Day Ahead premiere February 28 on Disney+.
