Controversial Megan Thee Stallion Line Edited Out Of Mean Girls Digital Release
OG Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan gave her co-sign on the new musical adaptation of the film when she made a cameo as the Mathletes Championship moderator. “It was amazing to work with Lindsay,” gushed Angourie Rice, who plays Cady Heron in the new film, in an interview with Pop Culture Planet. “She is such a professional. She is so experienced and just so kind as well. So kind that she took the time to be there, that she cares about this character and this story so much. It meant so much to me that that I got to meet her because that's such a rare experience.”
Meanwhile director Samantha Jayne reflected on getting to direct the Mean GIrls icon. “It was an out of body experience because I love her so much. She was unbelievably kind and giving and just an absolute joy to work with and incredibly sweet with the cast. It was a dream,” she told me. “Even offering her suggestions was a dream and her listening to us and our suggestions. I had to pinch myself.”
Despite a positive collaboration, Lohan was reportedly “very hurt and disappointed” by a joke seen earlier in the movie. In the clip, rapper Megan Thee Stallion appears as herself to show support for Cady following the Winter Talent Show debacle. She says, “We are going back red. Y2K fire crotch is back!” This line in the Tina Fey-penned script appears to be a callback to a derogatory nickname Lohan was called in a viral 2006 TMZ paparazzi video.
After backlash online about the line, it seems it has been removed for the film’s digital release. During my re-watch of the film, I noticed that Megan Thee Stallion’s line now ends at “We are going back red” and jumps to her laughing, cutting out “Y2K fire crotch is back” entirely. Hopefully this smooths things over with the Mean Girls legend!
Mean Girls is available on digital and VOD and streaming on Paramount+.
